The minimum wage (SMI) sets the minimum payment amount to be paid to English workers in their working day, regardless of sex or age. It affects all types of contracts, whether fixed, contingent or other characteristics. Its value is fixed by the Government every year, at the end of each year and according to the evolution of various factors like the consumer price index (CPI), the national average productivity or increasing the share of labor national income.

Following the evolution of these variants, the English government has established an SMI for 2011 of 641.40 euros, representing an increase of 1.3% over last year. For casual and temporary workers whose services to one company not exceeding 120 days, the wages may be less than 30.39 euros per day. For domestic employees, the amount referred to was 5.02 euros per hour worked.
